...Kratochvil had asked Bowie’s assistant about taking him outside and was told no. But Kratochvil was no rule follower. In fact, it was safe to say that in the world of photography, Kratochvil was a shit-talking cultural flashpoint who lived and died by the quality of his images and his sharp-shooting rhetoric.

“So, I just asked him. Hey David, man, your assistant tells me not to take you outside.” Bowie raised an eyebrow.

“I’m trying to find the light. You wanna come?” Bowie took a drag on his Marlboro.
